The gifts of a manager part

I could hear the manager part loud and clear,

“Why the hell don’t you have a thriving business by now? You know what to do. Why aren’t you doing enough? Why aren’t you working harder?”

My nervous system activated, sensing danger and revving up to take action. My throat tensed, my heart started to race.

“Pause” my self energy invited. I know what this is. It’s a manager part.

In the past I would have reacted to the manager part and tried to post more on social media, purchased another course, started another venture. But I was learning Internal Family Systems and wanted to become Self led. So I listened to my Self energy to pause.

Something was important to the manager part and I wanted to find out what it was. I turned my attention toward the part. I connected to calm Self energy.

“Mental health and personal growth are important to you. That’s why I’m trying so hard to get you to start your coaching business. I really want you to keep going.”

Wow, I thought. It was right, personal growth IS important to me. Lately I had been sacrificing it to focus on marketing but this was a great reminder that my own growth and journey IS my marketing and message. If I had simply reacted to the manager or told it to shut up, distracted myself, or tried to work harder, I would have missed the gift it was trying to give me. This part believes in me. It knows I can do it and it knows what’s important to me.
